According to the latest Italy's National Statistics Institute report (February 2013), 37.4% of holiday makers and 44.1% of business travelers opt for Internet.

2011 witnessed a 3.1% increase in DIY tourists, still on the rise. Traditional travel agencies are bearing the brunt, getting a grim 8.8% of the holiday-makers’ market with business travels dramatically plummeting from 21.4 to 8.9% over a year. According to Casaleggio Associates (IT and publishing advisory company), Italian e-commerce generated a 21.1 billion € trade volume in 2012, with tourism amounting to 24% overall (only second to the giant online game sector amounting to 48.5%) and expected to rise by 15% this year.
